While living in Arizona, Peter studied with an Indigenous American teacher, an experience that profoundly reshaped his spiritual path. Immersed in nature-based wisdom, he underwent a transformative awakening—one that deepened his connection to the natural world and set the course for his life's work. Inspired by this experience, he returned to Maine in 1999 and began leading ecospiritual journeys and immersive experiences. Over the past twenty-five years, his work has ranged from workshops at conferences and addiction recovery retreats across New England to multi-day expeditions in the North Maine Woods and Acadia National Park. As a Registered Maine Guide, he has spent much of his adult life in the wilderness, guiding others toward deeper connection and personal transformation.
A Zen Buddhist priest and teacher in the White Plum lineage, Peter serves as the guiding teacher for the Wild Fox Sangha, an internet-based Zen practice community. His teaching is deeply engaged with the urgent realities of our time, evolving traditional Zen practice to remain highly relevant in a world grappling with uncertainty, disconnection, and the search for sustainable survival.
With over twenty-five years in the field of addiction treatment, Peter holds a master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and is a licensed alcohol and drug counselor as well as a certified clinical supervisor. While he continues to work part-time in addiction recovery, his primary focus is pioneering ecospiritually-based healing through the Path of the Wild Heart—an approach that integrates deep nature connection with recovery and spiritual growth.
He is the author of Wild Mind, Wild Heart: Discover Your True Self in Nature.
JonScott McClung is a dedicated guide for those seeking deep, lasting healing beyond the limitations of traditional mental health approaches. Drawing on Zen practice, somatic psychotherapy, psychedelic-assisted therapy, and a reverent relationship with nature, he helps individuals release suffering and reconnect with their innate wholeness. Whether facing depression, anxiety, addiction, spiritual disconnection, or the grief of life transitions, his work supports those longing to come home to themselves.
His healing journey began in 1993 and took him through decades of exploration. After years of trying conventional therapy models that offered insight but not transformation—he turned to the deeper terrain of Self work. From 2019 to 2022, he apprenticed in psychedelic-assisted therapy, learning how to safely help people through expanded states of consciousness . In 2022, he began training with Roshi Peter Wohl of the White Plum Zen lineage. A year later, he formally took the Bodhisattva vows — a profound personal commitment to devote his life to the liberation of all beings. Helping others awaken, heal, and live in alignment with their true nature is now the heart of his path.
JonScott’s presence is warm, grounded, and quietly powerful. He holds space with deep compassion and intuitive clarity, meeting each person exactly where they are. His guidance is not about fixing or pathologizing—it’s about helping others remember who they truly are beneath the roles, trauma, and noise. His additional training includes Gabor Maté’s Compassionate Inquiry (2022) and the Hakomi Institute’s two year Mindful Somatic Psychotherapy program (2024). Most recently, JonScott has been navigating the profound terrain of a conscious uncoupling. This real-time experience of loving separation, grief, and rebirth continues to deepen his capacity to guide others through endings and thresholds with tenderness and presence.
Blending ancient wisdom, modern therapeutic pathways, and a soulful connection to the land, he creates intentional spaces—both in nature and in conversation—where healing happens naturally.
JonScott currently serves as the Operations Manager for Innate Dharma, where he also supports prospective clients in exploring if the 6-month healing journey is right for them. His greatest joy is witnessing people come alive again—grounded, connected, and aligned with their true nature.
